Cali to El Águila. Day 1
Started the day with rain.
Made a couple of wrong turns.
Dropped my bike twice.
Almost crashed while gazing at the view.
Nothing I didn’t expect.
I’m thrilled to be out on the road after 4 months in Cali. It has been a dream of mine for a long time to get a motorcycle and do a solo trip. A first for me.
The plan for the day was to arrive at El Águila, a cute little town situated in between mountains and clouds. Not particularly known by tourists.
I heard of the place through a photographer I met in Cali. He invited me to come and I thought why not. Going somewhere where you know someone local is surely going to be good time. Not only did he hook me up with a room for free. He also found a me a place for my bike. Not 5 stars, but it had a bed, shower and a toilet. What more do you need?
It’s something special about traveling with little to nothing planned. Just having an open road ahead of you knowing you won’t come back the same way. It’s liberating and adds to the thrill. I have an idea of where I want to go, but I also allow space for the random things to happen and change my plans accordingly.
What an incredible time I’ve had here in El Águila. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking. No image can translate the feeling of being in between these giants.
It amazes me that through one friend I’ve made so many new ones, that have hosted me, fed me, and shown me around. Incredible. I am extremely grateful and more sure of that with an open mind and less of a plan, things falls in place and experiences present themselves.
Now I’m off to Bogotá, though I’ll probably make a stop on the way as it’s just a bit far to make in one day. We’ll see where I end up.
Till next time
